In this blog post, we’re excited to feature the beautiful Cambridge’s Whistle Bear Golf Club, which is truly one of a kind. Whether you’re planning an outdoor or indoor Sikh or Hindu wedding, this venue is perfect for your special day. As the Indian community continues to grow and move out of the Brampton and Mississauga areas, more and more Indian wedding venues are becoming available outside the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
Cambridge is a growing area with a significant Indian population, and Sikh weddings at the Cambridge Gurdwara are already becoming increasingly popular. We recently had the pleasure of photographing Deepti and Nikhil’s Hindu wedding at the Whistle Bear Golf Club, and we can confidently say that this venue is truly unique.
Indoor Outdoor Feel at Whistle Bear Golf Club, Cambridge
As with any venue, there are pros and cons to hosting your wedding at the Whistle Bear Golf Club, and we’ll discuss these in detail in this blog post. If you’re considering this venue for your wedding, we recommend being mindful of these factors.
Sunday Wedding at Whistle Bear Gold Club
One growing trend we’ve noticed among weddings is moving away from the traditional Friday or Saturday wedding and reception, and instead hosting events on Sunday and Monday. Deepti and Nikhil’s wedding was a perfect example of this: they held their Hindu ceremony on Sunday morning, followed by the reception on Monday night. This schedule worked out perfectly for their guests, who didn’t have to take any time off work. On Monday night, guests partied until 12:30 or 1:00 am, and then could work from home on Tuesday morning.
Indian weddings are usually split into multiple days, and guests often have to take time off work to attend. However, with a Sunday wedding and Monday reception, you can save on costs, as venues and vendors are more open to working with you for your Indian wedding. You’ll also have more availability when it comes to venues.
Deepti and Nikhil’s wedding was a blast, from the baraat with Dhol and Groom on horseback from Ponies Are Us, to the bride’s side waiting to welcome the baraat. Everyone was jumping to the beats of the dhol as they walked towards the Whistle Bear main entrance, and both families eventually joined in the dance party.
The uniqueness of Whistle Bear Golf Club, Cambridge
Imagine having a remote control blind to how much light you want inside your house. That is exactly what you get at the Whistle Bear Golf Club’s Glass structure. You have a remote control on the ceiling where you open up or close based on how much light or sun you want inside this structure. Based on the weather on the day you are getting married at Whistle Bear you can close of open up the ceiling. If it gets too hot due to direct sun you can always add more shade as needed. This is unique and gives you so much control that none of the venues we know in GTA have control over lighting.
Even though the Whistle Bear Golf Club glass structure has a lot of advantages. There is one thing at this venue which for future clients we would like to recommend. The glass structure disadvantage is that the setting where you set the mandap or the altar will have a show fence in the background. Especially on the day the Sunny day the fence in the background gets overexposed which results in couples positioned in a unflattering light. The Gold rule is the stage should be in the brightest part of the room and with the white fence reflecting light your couple looks darker visually.
We highly recommend having the back wall of the gazebo draped in white. This way, it gives a clean look and softness to the backlight reflected by the white fence.
Using your wedding decor for wedding portraits
Xclusive Design did a phenomenal job at this venue with a colourful floral backdrop. We couldn’t resist using this stunning setup for the post-wedding photos. It gave us the platform to create another dimension of images with these vibrant colours. Keep in mind that your wedding photographer is playing the role of a creative director. Our goal is always to couple the most versatile options for wedding photographs.
Post Wedding Photoshoot at Whistle Bear Golf Club, Cambridge
Whistle Bear Golf Club has a lot of landscapes where you can take your post-wedding photos. We were escorted by the golf cart which took us around for photography view points. As a photographer, you can easily get a forest look, ponds and lush manicured green lawns in the background of your post-wedding photoshoot.
Lunch and Indoor Space at Whistle Bear Golf Club, Cambridge
The lunch post-Gujrati ceremony was served in the second-level ballroom which has a nice patio where guests could enjoy views of this spectacular property. A fine dining sit-down experience was to follow with the in-house chef from the Whistle Bear Golf Club. Another thing to consider is that Whistle Bear Gold Club does not allow outside catering to our knowledge and you can only have lunch as Sit-Down Family Style. This type of meal service can easily add the cost of additional servers. Even though the food was amazing, the service time can be improved. We hope this changes in the future so more Indian wedding couples who are considering buffet-style dinner service can consider this spectacular venue.
To understand Sit down vs Buffet Style Meals for your Indian wedding we have a full blog (3 ways of serving Indian wedding guests ) where you can learn the cost difference and challenges on Indian weddings.
One final detail worth mentioning is the vintage charm of the Whistle Bear main lobby, which added an extra touch of elegance and sophistication to the wedding festivities. This venue has great options in terms of the landscape, spectacular views and above all the catering team that can take care of your Next Hindu or SIkh wedding. We would love to photograph more weddings in future at the Whistle Bear facilities. Thanks to Posh Events for planning and Lesonne Bridal
